WILLIE JOLLEY’S QUOTE OF THE DAY: THE MAN IN THE MIRROR

THE MAN IN THE MIRROR

‘‘You can’t do that.’’ ‘‘You just don’t have what it takes.’’ ‘‘You’re not good enough.’’ These statements are common tools of Dream-Busters. They are frequently associated with people who talk us out of our best ideas and biggest dreams. The
problem is that the main person who makes these statements is the person we see every day in the mirror. It is us!

Many of us are our own worst enemies. We talk ourselves out of our best dreams and ideas by telling ourselves ‘‘We can’t do it.’’ ‘‘We don’t have what it takes.’’ ‘‘We are not good enough!’’ We all have experienced times when we doubt ourselves, and we doubt our abilities and therefore squelch what could be very profitable and productive activities, simply because we don’t think we can! Well, I’ve said it before and I’ll keep saying it: If you can control the enemy on the inside, the enemy on the outside cannot do you any harm.

In reaching our potential, we must always start with self. First, we must work on our own self-image. We must develop an ‘‘I can and I will’’ attitude and eliminate all negative self-talk as soon as it starts to enter our minds. Talk to yourself and tell yourself, ‘‘I can, oh yes I can.’’ Greet yourself in the mirror every day and say, ‘‘You are one of the greatest people that the world has ever known and you are going to do unbelievable things today.’’ Start with the person in the mirror, and then you can start to change those outside the mirror!
