I often ask a question of my audiences that I will ask of you, “What is sadder, a person who cannot read or a person who does not read?” Then I share the answer, “It is sad when a person cannot read, but it is pitiful when a person can read, but does not!” The same can be said about voting! It is sad when a person cannot vote, but it is pitiful when a person does not vote! I am not telling you who to vote for, but I am telling you that it is very important to vote. It is not so much what you do when you vote as much as what you become in the process!
One of the keys to success is embracing the power of responsibility. In others words, your success is your responsibility. Webster states that responsibility, “is the act of being responsible and accountable!” Responsibility means to “respond with your ability!” Unfortunately, most people miss the boat of success because they blame everything and everybody else for their lack of success. In a survey the question was asked. “What keeps you from being more successful?” Some said, “The government, the economy, my age, my sex, my race, my education, negative friends and family members…and so on.” One thing that was conspicuously missing from the list was “Myself!” And that was the main answer! The main person who stops us from having greater success is the person we look at everyday in the mirror! If you want greater success in your life, then you must take responsibility for your life, because it is YOUR LIFE!
Martin Luther King Jr. said, “Our lives begin to end the day we become silent about things that matter!” In order to become what we can become we must respond with our ability. I think this quote says it best, “Half of the American people never read a newspaper and half do not vote for the President. We can only pray that they are the same half!”
You cannot be silent during this time. You must raise your voice. Now is the time to take full responsibility for your success. Make a commitment to respond with your full ability. I am asking you to do whatever it takes. Get out and VOTE!!!! It is not so much what you do when you vote as much as what you become in the process… a responsible individual! So take a note… you have got to VOTE!
